The Acura ZDX – Electrifying Langley

Acura ZDX

Acura makes its debut into the world of electric cars by resurrecting a dearly missed model – the Acura ZDX in a brand-new electric avatar. One of the most eagerly awaited launches of 2024, this four-door luxury sports coupe is sure to take the luxury electric car market by storm. Read on to learn what’s got us so excited.

The Original Acura ZDX

The first Acura ZDX was launched in 2010, designed by Michelle Christensen and was advertised as a car that "blurs the distinction between coupe, sedan and sport utility vehicle." The car was a pioneer in many ways – it featured Acura’s first six speed automatic transmission and advanced ventilated seats along with a host of other luxury features. It was also the first Acura vehicle to be completely designed in the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles.

The 2024 Acura ZDX

The 2024 Acura ZDX takes a pioneering role once again as Acura’s first electric vehicle. Like its predecessor, it will be designed in Acura’s California studio although this time it will be in partnership with General Motors utilizing the highly flexible global EV platform powered by Ultium batteries.

As Acura’s first zero emissions SUV, it’s a huge step toward Honda’s goal to be completely carbon neutral by 2050, including all North American sales to be electric by 2040. In the world of car design, 2040 is just around the corner.

The New Styling

There’s plenty of speculation going around about the car, but what we do know is that the styling will be based around Acura’s Precision EV concept and will be similar in size to the Acura MDX – definitely more spacious than the original. The EV platform is scalable, offering various motor and battery configurations with a range of up to 450 miles.

Higher Trims

What’s really exciting is that the ZDX Type S is a part of the plan, and that may well be the all-wheel drive variant with the higher 500 hp horsepower rating than the estimated base trim of 340 hp rear mounted electric motor. So, we’d be looking at an AWD setup, with FWD models to follow.

Acura hasn’t released any info about the interior styling yet, but with the luxurious interior appointments of the 2023 Acura MDX and its tech laden features, it’s safe to say that the new EV is definitely going to meet the expectations of anyone looking to buy a luxury EV.
